2025-03-18

A delegation from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) visited Peking University People's Hospital (PKUPH) on March 11, 2025. The delegation included Chief Clinical Research Officer Jeffrey A. Meyerhardt, Medical Oncology Vice President David Read, International Strategic Initiatives Senior Director Katya Losk, International Strategic Initiatives Senior Manager Alice Zheng, and International Strategic Initiatives Project Manager Kara Hur. Vice President Wang Tianbing of PKUPH led clinical and administrative representatives to attend the meeting, including the departments of Thoracic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hematology, Gastroenterological Surgery, Nursing, Human Resources, Education, and the Office of International Affairs and External Cooperation.

Vice President Wang Tianbing extended a warm welcome to the DFCI delegation first and highlighted DFCI's status as a global leader in cancer care, research, and education, particularly its remarkable bench-to-bedside research model. The model rapidly combines cutting-edge laboratory discoveries with clinical treatment solutions. He emphasized that this approach is in line with PKUPH's medical and research goals, as well as its mission to satisfy patients and the whole society. "We hope to establish a deep collaboration with you, promoting innovative medical technologies and research findings to broader communities, and contributing to the advancement of global healthcare".

During the meeting, the representative from the Office of International Affairs and External Cooperation provided an overview of the hospital. Then representatives from DFCI and PKUPH shared their respective medical and research progress. The DFCI Delegation showed strong interest in the hospital's departments. Although PKUPH does not have an oncology department, it adopts multidisciplinary treatment (MDT) for complex cases, inviting experts from various specialties to develop the most appropriate treatment plans. The DFCI delegation detailed its existing training programs and medical services for international patients. This sparked an engaging discussion between both sides. The Nursing Department and Education Department representatives also briefly introduced their nursing training programs and student exchange opportunities respectively, expressing high eagerness for collaboration. The delegation expressed a warm welcome to staff and students from PKUPH for academic exchange and training and conveyed their interest in exploring new avenues, such as teleconsultations, to enhance patient care.

This exchange is expected to pave the way for collaboration in clinical care, education, and research between PKUPH and DFCI.
