On the afternoon of January 15, 2025, a delegation from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Honduras, along with representatives from the GX Foundation of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), visited Peking University People's Hospital (PKUPH).
The Honduran delegation included Ambassador Salvador Moncada of the Republic of Honduras to China, Vector-Borne Disease Care Program Representative Amy Carolina Tovar Martinez, and the regional health directors, totaling eight members. The GX Foundation delegation, led by Senior Advisor Lau Chi Tong, included ten members. Ms.Pan Biyue from the Department of International Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs) of the National Health Commission of the PRC accompanied the delegations.
Vice President Yang Fan of PKUPH, extended a warm welcome to the delegations, joined by Director Ju Hui of the Continuing Medical Education Department, Deputy Director Liu Ying of the Medical Services Management Department, Deputy Director Wang Qiuyi of the Office of International Affairs, and External Cooperation and Associate Research Fellow Wang Xinxin of the Infection Prevention & Control Department.
In his welcome speech, Vice President Yang Fan emphasized the shared global aspiration for health and the universal challenge of diseases. He stressed the importance of international collaboration in effectively addressing shared public health challenges and safeguarding global health in an increasingly interconnected world.
Ambassador Salvador Moncada expressed gratitude for the hospital's hospitality and discussed the pressing healthcare challenges in the Republic of Honduras, such as disparities in wealth and social inequality complicating the country's healthcare landscape. He conveyed the desire to learn from China's advanced management practices in healthcare.
Vice President Yang Fan then introduced the hospital's development over these years and its challenges. Despite its long history, the hospital provides medical services for millions of patients within a limited space. To better serve patients nationwide, the hospital has implemented a series of solutions, including renovating the outpatient building with new facilities like escalators, establishing new campuses in Tongzhou District and Xiong'an New Area, and adopting domestically produced medical equipment. These measures have ensured more accessible and affordable medical services for patients.
Ambassador Salvador Moncada praised the hospital's innovative measures and expressed gratitude to the GX Foundation for facilitating the visit. He expressed hope for future collaboration in the exchange of medical talents and technology with China.
After the discussion, the delegations visited the hospital's outpatient building and the Department of International Medical Services.
"The Republic of Honduras possesses its extensive experience and unique strengths in the field of healthcare", Vice President Yang Fan remarked. He described this visit as a significant opportunity for medical exchanges between China and the Republic of Honduras and expressed confidence that, under the guidance of the National Health Commission of the PRC, PKUPH would actively play its role in the future bilateral collaboration between the two countries.
