Under the Belt and Road Initiative, a medical team from Peking University People’s Hospital recently carried out a healthcare training program in Zanzibar, Tanzania, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and co-organized by the National Health Commission International Exchange and Cooperation Center. The program aims to strengthen local capacity in cervical cancer prevention and treatment.
On November 9, the "Zanzibar Cervical Cancer Screening Training Program" was launched under the leadership of Professor Sun Xiuli, Director of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department. Based on prior needs assessment, the team designed a systematic curriculum combining theoretical instruction and hands-on training to equip local medical workers with essential knowledge and skills. The experts also visited local hospitals and engaged with patients.
Earlier in May, Professor Wang Jianliu, also from the hospital’s Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, visited Zanzibar to attend an international academic conference, where he shared clinical expertise and participated in public health outreach in the local community.
This long-distance medical assistance and training program has helped improve gynecological care and women’s health in Zanzibar, reflecting the spirit that “health knows no borders” and contributing to the Health Silk Road through people-to-people exchange.
