2021-12-19
On December 18th, 2021, Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH) inaugurated a new campus in Tongzhou District, which has been designated as Beijing’s Municipal Administrative Center and is poised to relieve Beijing of functions non-essential to its role as China’s capital, promote the coordinated development of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Region and explore a new mode for optimizing and developing densely populated areas.
The inauguration celebration was held onsite on the Tongzhou Campus. Government officials, distinguished invited guests and staff representatives of PKUPH were there to officially open the new campus.
The Tongzhou Campus is a two-phase project, with the first phase covering a land area of about 24.2 acres and a floor area of 119,000 square meters. The first phase of the campus is an 800-bed facility, which has been completed and opened its doors to the public on inauguration day. The opening of the new campus affords patients a wide array of inpatient and outpatient programs for their health care needs, including primary, emergency and specialty care, as well as diagnostic testing.
“As a tertiary first-class general hospital, the Tongzhou Campus is to construct three dominant discipline clusters—a trauma center, obstetrics and gynecology center, and an oncology center—and establish the first batch of research wards of the hospital. It also aims to promote the development of all disciplines of the campus and cover the entire disease spectrum among local citizens through a variety of general and subspecialty services. In addition, the opening of the Tongzhou Campus allows us to further promote the main body construction of the National Center for Trauma Medicine (NCTM) and establish a trauma rescue network system based in Tongzhou, serving the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Region and radiating out through the whole country”, said JIANG Baoguo, president of PKUPH and director of NCTM.
The inauguration of the Tongzhou Campus also marked a milestone in PKUPH’s history. With the support from the governments at different levels and people from all walks of life, the Tongzhou Campus will strive to redefine healthcare access, convenience and quality for the local population and benefit patients from other parts of the country.
