Hematology | Prof. Huang Xiaojun’s Team Reveals a New Mechanism of Delayed Platelet Engraftment after Transplantation
2021-06-30
On June 18th, 2021, Prof. Huang Xiaojun and Researcher KONG Yuan, from the National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases, Peking University People's Hospital and Peking University Institute of Hematology, jointly published an online article entitled “M2 macrophages, but not M1 macrophages, support megakaryopoiesis by upregulating PI3K-AKT pathway activity” in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy. Prof. Huang Xiaojun and Researcher Kong Yuan shared co-corresponding authorship of the article, and the research results have been presented at the 26th Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA).
This study revealed for the first time a new mechanism of delayed platelet engraftment after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, suggesting that the PI3K-Akt pathway is a key pathway of macrophage M2 subtype supporting megakaryocyte maturation, which may lead to new insightsthe pathogenesis of thrombocytopenia and provide a potential therapeutic strategy to promote megakaryopoiesis.
