Department of Cardiology

    Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH) Department of Cardiology sets the standard for premier heart care, ranking among the top centers in China for care of cardiovascular disease. We aim to provide high quality and advanced medical care to patients, to provide outstanding education across the continuum of cardiology medicine and to pursue new strategies for cardiovascular disease through basic, clinical and health services research.

    Noted specialist of cardiology Prof. Wansen Ma found the specialty of cardiology of PUPH in 1950s. Then, the department of cardiology was founded in 1986. Former chairmen were Prof. Jingyi Wang, Prof. Chengbin Xu, Prof. Baoqi Jiang and Prof. Dayi Hu and Prof. Hong Chen is the current chairman of department of cardiology. Currently there are 157 staff, with 38 medical professionals with seniorassociate senior titles and 3 doctoral supervisors.

    As one of the national referral center of most difficult and complex cardiac cases, our multidisciplinary team of experts offers the full range of advanced treatments for cardiovascular conditions including: dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, hypertension, syncope and cardiovascular rehabilitation.

    PKUPH Department of Cardiology was already accredited and recognized as national key discipline, national key clinical specialty, American Heart Association (AHA) Professional Resource Center, Beijing key laboratory and the first general hospital chest pain center authenticated by Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC) in China.

    Over the decades, we have kept equipping ourselves with advanced technologies. Our clinicians are some of the foremost experts in China in diagnosing, treating and preventing heart disease, especially in areas of interventional treatment of coronary artery disease, cardiac electrophysiology, dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis disease and myocardial disease.Our extensive experience combined with the full resources of an academic medical center, enable us to provide hope and treatment for patients.

    As an academic medical center and an affiliate of Peking University Health Science Center, PUPH Department of Cardiologyprepares future health care professionals and trains providers in innovative therapies.We have been awarded the title of “1st prize of National Teaching Achievement Award”, “1st prize of Beijing Teaching Achievement Award”.

    In recent years, department of cardiology has been actively engaged in scientific researches and won more than 50 projects at state and provincial levels. We published numbers of highly influential SCI papers in world-class journals.Our research interests including defining the genetic and metabolic contribution to development of atherosclerosis disease, especially premature myocardial infarction; the role of sodium intake in the development, progression and prevention of hypertension and relate organ damage; catheter ablation of arrhythmia, implantable device leads extraction and hereditary arrhythmia; optimizing the diagnosis of syncopy; exploring the underlying mechanism of myocardial disease; rehabilitation of myocardial infarction patients.
