About Us

The Department of Pain Medicine at Peking University People’s Hospital was founded in 2007. It originated as a pain medicine group within the Department of Anesthesiology and became an independent department in 2013. The current chair is Dr. Feng Yi.

A team of experienced and dedicated specialists in clinical care, education, and research works here, committed to providing the best services to patients with chronic pain. The department consists of three subspecialties: bone and joint pain, neuropathic pain, and cancer pain. It is a national leader in minimally invasive interventional procedures for lumbar disc herniation, neuromodulation for neuropathic pain, and cancer pain management. In recognition of its achievements in standardized cancer pain treatment, the department established one of China’s first “Good Pain Management Wards,” as certified by the Ministry of Health.

As an affiliated hospital of Peking University Health Science Center, our department has a professional and responsible teaching team committed to educating medical undergraduates, interns, postgraduates, and visiting scholars from across the country. We have hosted the “Treatment and Advances in Pain Medicine” training program for five consecutive years, making it one of the most influential academic events in the field of pain medicine in China.

The department places great emphasis on scientific research. Professor Feng Yi serves as a standing committee member of the Chinese Association for the Study of Pain. Current research focuses include bone and soft tissue pain, neuropathic pain, and cancer pain. Dozens of papers have been published in SCI-indexed and core Chinese medical journals.
