Department of Stomatology

Established at the end of 1917 by Prof. Yu Jiazhen, the Department of Stomatology has become a large-scale division with 35 doctors, 20 nurses, 3 technicians, 33 dental treatment units, and more than 260 daily outpatient visits over the past ten decades. In terms of human resource allocation, the department consists of 16 individuals with senior professional titles, 15 with intermediate titles, and 26 holding master’s degrees. A major characteristic of the department is the balanced development across all sub-specialties. Apart from in-patient treatment programs, it covers all other branches of stomatology, including oral rehabilitation, oral medicine, oral surgery, orthodontics, oral implantology, and oral radiology. Both oral rehabilitation and oral medicine have distinctive comparative advantages, with the latter further classified among tertiary disciplines such as endodontics, periodontics, oral mucosal diseases, and pediatric dentistry. The department is striving to explore a development path based on its unique features, particularly in overlapping areas with specialized fields such as respiratory diseases, hematology, and organ transplantation.

In recent years, the department has implemented strict control measures for hospital infections and medical quality, supported by appropriate software and hardware investments. It leads the industry in terms of both scale and various medical indicators. To develop a dental medical center within a comprehensive hospital, the department continues to advance its professional specialization. In recent years, it has been transitioning from a model focused solely on clinical treatment to one that places equal emphasis on medical care and scientific research. The research team now prioritizes clinical stomatology and dental materials and has accumulated significant experience, particularly in the study of dental materials.
