About Us

Overview
    Department of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) of Peking University People's Hospital was established in 1956. With the guidance of the two national famous old doctors of TCM, Xu Hengzhi, Zhang Jianfu, we subsequently set up the innovative therapy for leukemia by TCM treatment and have been accumulating a wealth of experience in TCM therapy on difficult diseases of Internal Medicine ever since.

    TCM department integrates clinical practices, researcheducation together. To satisfy our first priority, the well-being of our patients—nearfar, we provide health care through joint efforts of our TCM ward, TCM clinic, acupuncture clinic, rehabilitation clinic, TCM laboratory, electrophysiology examination room and the teaching research section of TCM.

Ward-Clinic Patient Care
    Our TCM ward provides a full range of health care services through integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy, with the multidisciplinary cooperation on the whole hospital system including departments of medicine and surgery. In addition, our TCM ward has multidisciplinary care teams-known as combined treatment of Chinese and Western medicine in acute and chronic cerebrovascular disease, hypertension, coronary heart disease, respiratory disease, digestive disease, diabetes, tumors, gynecological disease, osteoarthrosis via special therapies of TCM, TCM herbs, acupuncture and moxibustion, regimenre and habilitation-unite the specialists across the department and hospital to offer combined medical care with cooperation across the whole hospital.

    Meanwhile, Patients at our TCM clinic have access to a vast network of physicians, nearly all of whom are Beijing University of Chinese Medicine faculty, many of whom are professors within their fields. Our TCM clinic teams—known well for innovations in cerebrovascular disease (especially in stroke), arthralgia, nerve injuries after chemotherapy in blood disease, sleep disorder, coughasthma, digestive system disease, skin disease, diabetes, chronic rhinitis, cancer, dizziness and headache, neck and shoulder pain, andrology diseases, irregular menses, climacteric syndrome, psychosomatic disease, immunologically mediated disease, auriculo therapy, reducing weight by acupuncture treatment—establish various professional clinics and unite specialists across the hospital to offer comprehensive medical care, which receive a favourable report from patients.

AwardsResearch Projects
   In recent years, we also consistently achieve high ratings from professional organizations. We have been awarded as:

• The Demonstration Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Beijing General Hospital by Beijing administration of traditional Chinese Medicine in 2004.
• The Demonstration Unit of Chinese Medicine Work in National General Hospital by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ministry of Healththe General Logistics Department in 2007.
• The 12th Five-Year Encephalopathy Key Specialty by Beijing administration of traditional Chinese Medicine in 2012.

    In each research field, we aim to drive discoveries and breakthroughs in basic and clinical research, which brought us more than 50 projects that supported by the State 973 Project, National Natural Science Foundation, Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Special Fund and Capital Medical Development Fund, with smooth cooperation together with the whole hospital specialists.
