Overview
The Department of Clinical Nutrition at Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH) provides some of the best nutrition outpatient counseling and inpatient care in Beijing. Our dietitians have extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of malnutrition. Inpatients also have access to professional clinical nutrition support during their stay at our hospital, including nutrition risk assessment, nutrition supplement plans, and detailed health education. Peking University People’s Hospital has earned a reputation throughout China for treating every patient as special and deserving of the very best medical care.
Our experienced dietitians are trained to prevent and manage malnutrition in various populations, with expertise in diabetes, hematology, pregnancy, infants, and the elderly. We collaborate with teams of experts from virtually every medical and surgical specialty to ensure the best care for each patient. Awards
In 2011, the department received the National Excellent Team Award from the Chinese Society of Nutrition (CSN).
In 2010, the department won first prize in the Beijing Nutritional Therapy Skills Competition.
Clinical Services
1. We offer outpatient clinical services in the following areas:
Pregnancy nutrition clinic;
Medical nutrition weight loss clinic;
Tumor nutrition clinic;
Geriatric nutrition clinic;
Pediatric nutrition clinic;
Type 1 diabetes nutrition clinic;
2. For inpatients, we:
Provide recipes and meal plans that help them stay nourished and strong;
Monitor their nutritional status from the beginning to the end of treatment, making modifications as needed to minimize side effects and prevent treatment interruptions.
3. Diet Management
We provide a variety of diets for inpatients:
1) Basic diets: regular diet, ordinary soft food, semi-liquid diet, liquid diet, diet for the Department of Geriatrics, special ward meals, halal meals, and vegetarian diet
2) Therapeutic diets: diabetic diet, low-salt diet, salt-free diet, low-fat diet, low-salt and low-fat diet, low-iodine diet, low-purine diet, low-potassium diet, high-potassium diet, anemia diet, low-protein diet, high-protein diet, high-energy diet, diet for the Department of Hematology, prenatal diet, postnatal diet, and tube feeding diet
3) Test meals: gallbladder imaging diet, colonoscopy prep diet, occult blood test diet, no-pigment meals, steamed bread meal, etc.
Education
1. Clinical nutrition education for graduate and undergraduate students at Peking University Health Science Center
2. Weekly seminars among dietitians;
3. Monthly county-level continuing education for healthcare workers;
4. Monthly education sessions for nurses and patients in wards;
5. Monthly classes for pregnant women;
6. Monthly health talks for residents;
7. Weekly classes for patients with chronic kidney disease;
8. Monthly classes for family members of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Research
The Department of Clinical Nutrition conducts research on a wide array of topics, including:
1. Establishment of a human breast milk bank and analysis of breast milk composition;
2. Study on a nutrition assessment system for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in leukemia;
3. Study on models of integrated chronic disease education;
4. Effects of preload intervention on blood glucose control and pregnancy outcomes in gestational diabetes mellitus;
5. Study on the relationship between royal jelly, chronic diseases, and immune function in elderly patients.

Our Experts
Liu Peng, PhD
Director of the Clinical Nutrition Department; committee member of the Nutrition Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA); committee member of the Beijing Dietetic Association; Secretary-General of the Clinical Nutrition Branch, Beijing Nutrition Association. Dr. Liu is also an accomplished dietitian with experience in complex cases.
Cai Jingjing, MS
An accomplished physician with experience in nephrology, gastroenterology, and respiratory medicine.
Wang Yu, MS
Ms. Wang received her Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition from the United States. She is an accomplished dietitian with experience in chronic disease management, anti-aging, and weight control.
Wang Boshi, MS
An accomplished dietitian with experience in nutrition before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for leukemia, as well as geriatric nutrition.
Guo Qianying, PhD
An accomplished dietitian with a background in pharmaceutical sciences.
Cui Mingxuan, MS
An accomplished dietitian with a background in endocrinology.
