Radiation Oncology
Department of Radiation Oncology
Overview
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Peking University People's Hospital was established in 1988. Over its 30-year evolution, the department has become a nationally leading center for radiation oncology diagnosis and treatment, serving as a key component of the Peking University Radiation Oncology Discipline. Supported by world-class hardware equipment and extensive clinical expertise, the department is dedicated to advancing precision radiotherapy and multidisciplinary cancer care, driving the standardization and modernization of radiation oncology in China. The department actively participates in national major scientific research projects and the formulation of national clinical guidelines, undertaking the improvement of regional healthcare standards as its mission.
Our Team:
Led by Director Zhang Min, the department has established a professional team of 40 people, including 12 physicians (3 with associate senior titles and above), 7 physicists, 19 technicians, and 2 nurses. Many team members hold key positions in various academic organizations, including the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, and the CSCO Radiation Oncology Committee. At the same time, many members have joined the Chinese Medical Association, Beijing Medical Association, Beijing Medical Doctor Association, Beijing Anti-Cancer Association, etc.
Clinical Services
The department treats more than 30,000 external radiation patients and 300 internal radiation patients annually. Relying on advanced equipment (such as the Elekta Harmony Pro Intelligent Adaptive System and Infinity Linear Accelerator), it carries out cutting-edge technologies including adaptive radiotherapy (ART), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), covering the treatment of tumors throughout the body and some benign diseases. The adoption of a Multi-Disciplinary Treatment (MDT) model in collaboration with other clinical departments has enabled our comprehensive cancer treatment experience to reach an advanced level, covering a wide range of cancers, including lung cancer, esophageal cancer, thymic tumors, gynecological tumors, breast cancer, bone and soft tissue tumors, hematological tumors, gastrointestinal tumors, hepatobiliary pancreatic tumors, and retroperitoneal tumors.
Clinical Features:
1. Intelligent Precision Radiotherapy:
Harmony Pro adaptive system, achieving "full process personalized radiotherapy";
Optical surface and CBCT dual guidance;
Precise six-dimensional treatment bed;
4D-CBCT;
ABC breathing gating, DIBH (Deep Inspiration Breath Hold) technology.
2. Multimodality Localization Technology:
Philips Big Bore large-bore CT, 4D-CT respiratory gating technology;
GE Revolution ES CT, spectral imaging technology.
3. Benign Disease Characteristic Radiotherapy:
Rich experience in non-tumor diseases such as keloids.
Education
The department undertakes the clinical teaching tasks of Peking University Health Science Center and regularly carries out tumor radiotherapy topic lectures, multidisciplinary case discussions, and technical training. Our department has become one of the main components of the Peking University Oncology Radiotherapy Department and is a standardized training base for fellows and a training base for advanced physicians. In recent years, the department members have joined international/domestic academic conferences with outstanding academic results more than 10 times and participated in the compilation of seven textbooks/popular science books, promoting radiotherapy technology popularization and talent cultivation.
Research & Innovation
We carry out multicenter clinical research and basic scientific research and focus on the innovation of radiotherapy technology and clinical transformation, research on adaptive radiotherapy, large-fraction radiotherapy, and the intersection of medicine and engineering.
Our department presided over 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 1 sub-topic of the National Key Research and Development Plan, obtained 8 invention patents, published many SCI papers, and participated in the compilation of 1 national guideline.
