Department of Ultrasound
Department of Ultrasound in Peking University People's Hospital is one of the domestic comprehensive departments of Ultrasound, which set ultrasonic diagnosis and ultrasound-guided interventional treatmentinto one department. It has a professional talent team and world-class ultrasonic equipments, undertaking the tasks of medical services, educations and researchesof Peking University Health Science Center. In addition, the department is authorized as the bases for doctor and master degree, the resident standardization-training base in Beijing and the first training base for musculoskeletal ultrasound of Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
There are 8withsenior titles,among which 2 are doctoral supervisors, 8 with intermediate titles,16 residents in the departmentat present. Professor LiJianguo, the founder of thedepartment, holds the post of present of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering,the chief editor of Chinese Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine,the Standing Committee of Ultrasound medical expert committee of Cross Strait Exchange Association concurrently and so on. Meanwhile, professor Liis one of the experts who first carry out the interventional ultrasound and gastrointestinal ultrasound.
In recent years, the department has formed seven sub-groups including abdominal ultrasound, superficial organ ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, musculoskeletal ultrasound, interventional ultrasound, rheumatologyultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound. The characteristic and advantageousprojects include gastrointestinal ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, transrectal ultrasound, prostate ultrasound, peripheral nerve ultrasound, rheumatic and immune ultrasound, exercise-inducedinjury oftendon and muscle.In the field of abdominal ultrasound, the advanced elastic imaging has been enrolled as one of clinical routine items, providing the information of the hardness of the liver, pancreas and other organs. For example, the surveillance of the hardness for chronic liver disease and fatty liver is of great significancefor early detection ofliver fibrosis. The international advanced transrectal 360-degree probe can help to detect rectal lesions. The contrast-enhancedultrasound covers almost all the systems such asthe abdomen, superficial organs, vascular and musculoskeletal systems, especially having the advantages in the vulnerable plaque of carotid artery, Budd–Chiari syndrome ofthe liver and the activity of the immune vascular lesions.In the field of vascular ultrasound, the new technologies carried out in the department can not only provide morphological information, but also the functional evaluation of carotid artery, displaying the microvessels through ultrasonography. The superiority in superficial ultrasound is mainly the application of standardized methods and routine interventional diagnosis, such as TI-RADS forthyroid nodules, BI-RADS for breast mass, which are applied early and systematically. Skin ultrasound belongs to a special sub-group, providingthe ultrasound assessment for masses, inflammatory lesions and systemic lesions.Oral mucosal ultrasonography is a new technique developed in the department recently and optimize the latest ultrasound screening method for the evaluation of hematological and graft versus host disease with a new imaging evaluation target. In the field of urinary system ultrasound, besides transrectalultrasound guided prostate biopsy,the transperineal prostate biopsy has been enrolled to improve the accuracy of prostate biopsy, which can be operated for the outpatients. The Sonourethrographyand a new technique of ultrasound evaluation for urine control lesions in males have also been carried out. The musculoskeletal ultrasoundwas developed the most systematically, including the ultrasound of tendon, muscle and exercise-induced joint injury, rheumatoid immune ultrasound, peripheral nerve ultrasound, pain ultrasound, musculoskeletal tumor and ultrasound guided interventional treatment for pain of the shoulder, elbow and wrist joints and so on.
The department, always based on scientific researchand oriented in promoting clinical diagnosis and treatment, has hosted many research projectsin recent years, including National Natural Science Foundation, as well as provincial and ministerial level and hospital-level research projects. A number ofimportant results have been published in the international SCI papers and RCCSE.There are many academic monographsunder the editorship, such as the graduate textbook"musculoskeletal ultrasound diagnosis”, published by People's Medical Publishing House, "peripheral nerve ultrasound imaging" and so on. In addition, as the chief expert unit, led the guideline development of Chinese musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Departmentof Ultrasound of Peking University People's Hospital assumes the teaching duties for the eight-program undergraduates, masters and doctors of Peking University Health Science Center. Most of them have become the backbone in the academic circles of Ultrasound in China. The ultrasound training doctors, the training program fromwestern regions andthe community backbone are welcomed to visit and learn. As one of the Beijing standardized medical training bases, the department hascarried out the standardized residents training for 23 years, 3-6 residents / year.
