Vascular Surgery Center of Peking University People’s Hospital

About Us

Introduction
The Vascular Surgery Center of Peking University People’s Hospital is devoted to providing state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment in a compassionate environment for patients with vascular diseases. Our center founded in 2003 by the illustrious Prof. XiaoMing Zhang and is one of the leading vascular centers in the China with specialists in every area of vascular disease. Our specialties diagnose and treat the full range of vascular conditions, creat new treatments and educate the next generation of medical leaders. The center's clinical services encompass all elements of vascular care, including diagnostic evaluations and medical management, non-invasive testing, surgical care, diagnostic angiography and endovascular therapeutics (minimally invasive treatment), and inpatient services and critical care.

Clinical Service Including:

  • Thoracic Aorta Surgery
  • Aortic arch surgery (full aorta replacement)
  • acute and chronic aortic dissections
  • thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Marfan syndrome and coarctation of the aorta
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
  • Radical Surgery for Budd-Chiari Syndrom
  • Carotid artery disease
  • Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)/peripheral vascular disease (PVD)
  • Subclavian stenosis
  • Mesenteric artery stenosis
  • Venous disease
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Leg swelling
  • Varicose veins
  • Spider veins
  • vascular medicine
  • Nephrology
  • Renal artery/vein aneurysm/dissection/stenosis

Minimally Invasive Treatment Strategies
In addition to open surgery, specialists offer a number of innovative strategies for minimally invasive managing vascular diseases, including:

  • Minimally invasive stent-grafts for selected descending thoracic aortic/abdominal aneurysms
  • Stent-grafting of selected type B aortic dissections
  • Repair of extensive thoracoabdominal aneurysms
  • Multi-modality imaging of a variety of complex thoracic aortic conditions
  • Ascending aneurysm repair with an interposition tube graft
  • Composite aortic root replacement
  • Stent graft/minimally invasive endovascular surgery

Surgical repair of thoracic/abdominal aortic aneurysms is usually carried out when the aneurysm is large enough in size to carry a significant risk of rupture or dissection, or complicated aneurysms cause symptoms. Aneurysms of smaller size are usually managed medically with blood pressure control and periodic follow-up imaging.

Nationally Recognized Research and Care
Peking University People’s Hospital Vascular Center physicians participate in national-wide recognized research and clinical trials that involve:

Evaluating treatments.
Our physicians are principle investigators in national trials, including one that was a determining role in the China Food and Drug Administration approval of Drug-eluting Ballon and BTK stents. Currently, we are leading trials that evaluate the non-surgical treatment of thoracic aortic diseases with endografts. Director Prof. XiaoMing Zhang is predecessor Chairman of Vascular Surgeon Committee, Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Vice Chairman of Professional Committee of Vascular Disease, China Society of Microcirculation.

Investigating new devices.
Since 1994, Prof. XiaoMing Zhang invented the first stent in china for venous disease, our institution has been the leader in the design, development and evaluation of clinical trial outcomes on novel vascular devices. Our clinicians also investigate new devices such as endovascular stent grafts, drug-coated stents, drug-coated balloons and other minimally invasive technologies.
The quality of our patient care is also enhanced by:

  • Following patient outcomes. The Peking University People’s Hospital Vascular Center has taken the unprecedented step of independently evaluating the outcomes of patients who have undergone procedures for aorta disease and PVD. These tracking systems ensure we deliver quality care and inform the public about our success rates with unprecedented accuracy and objectivity
  • A dedicated nurse coordinator. Our team includes a dedicated nurse coordinator who takes relevant information about each patient’s condition and symptoms and arranges a prompt evaluation with the most appropriate vascular expert
