The Nuclear Medicine Department, established in 1958, is a modern department with extensive activities in patient care, teaching and research. After years of effort, our department has been fully integrated with the medical and surgical care of Peking university People’s hospital. Our expertise is available to help care for patients, from offering the earliest possible diagnosis to helping assess and manage treatment plans.
The department is equippedwith3 state-of-the-art facilities, including one PET/CT scanner and two SPECT/CT scanners, which can provide a comprehensive range of scintigraphic imaging.
Led by Professor Wang Qian, our professional talent team encompasses a total of 16 medical care personnel. Among them, there are 1 chief physician,2 associate chief physicians, 2 attending physicians,3 resident physicians,6 highly trainedtechnicians and 2 specialist nurses.
The highly specialized team performs and interprets more than 6000 imaging examinationsevery year, and especially expertise inbonescintigraphy for the diagnosis of benign and malignant bones and soft tissue tumors. Abundant experience has been accumulatedin thePET/CT imaging for etiological diagnosis of fever of unknown origin, connective tissue disease and identifying individuals at the risk of brain degenerative disease. In addition to these capabilities, weconduct radioimmunology assayandoutpatient radionuclide therapy for patients with hyperthyroidism and bone pain due to metastatic tumor.
Our people are committed to offering optimal and high-quality care with expert consultations and treating every patient with respect and genuine compassion.

Research is an integral part of Peking university People’s hospital. Specialists within the Department of Nuclear Medicineconduct various clinical research, working closely with clinical departments.More than 30 research papers from the department have been published in professional journals. In addition, members of the department annually present their research papers at national and international nuclear medicine meetings. The current research studies include:
l Ictal brain SPECT imaging and interictal PET imaging in detection of seizure foci in patient with epilepsy
l 99mTc-MIBI bone scintigraphy and 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in monitoring the response to chemotherapy in patients with bone and soft tissue tumors
